Edessa: Mosaics with Syriac inscriptions, families and Orphic scenes

Mosaic works stolen from Sanliurfa Province, Turkey.

Please note that DK identified other mosaics from this group, which were not reported stolen, but which turned out to be amongst the set of photographers the looters took at the site. Any mosaics in this very distinct style - Orphic scenes, Syriac inscriptions, women wearing hair piled high and covered in veils - are almost certainly looted from Edessa post 1970.

I: Abgar Mosaic; bust portrait mosaic of a woman; found in 1979 in the center of Sanliurfa in Pine Grove Cemetery Hill neighborhood.

It was published in 1981 by Drijvers. Mosaic on the bottom right female figure is below the rest of the place has been stolen. III: Barman my SON BARBA'ŞA the MOSAIC; found Mosaic Saladin in 1998, the center of Sanliurfa in a house in the neighborhood Yakubiye E.GÜ and Res. See. Bahattin was found by STEEL.

VI: Ghawth SON BALAYLAR; found in a cave outside the historic center of Sanliurfa Samsat'ta door.

VII: the Orpheus Mosaic; found in 1956 in the center of Sanliurfa Eyyübiye neighborhood, by J.B.Segal in a rock cut tomb.

539 missing letters on the date given. This date corresponds to the Gregorian 228 years.

VII: Zenodora mosaic;

In 1881 in Urfa were copies. as missing out on a date it was given 570, 259 Prune corresponds to the Gregorian year.

IX: Phoenix mosaic; or possibly a peacock; found in the center of Sanliurfa in 1956 by J.B. Segal Eyyübiye neighborhood, it was in a rock tomb.

as on date is given by the Seleucid year 547 Gregorian calendar that money is 236.
